Enviro Paul was proud to play a part in the new Bridgewater Bridge.
What was needed in this project:
- Water Turbidity monitoring
- Remote Solar Power
- Barometric pressure monitoring
- Live tide monitoring
About the project
The new Bridgewater Bridge is the largest infrastructure project in Tasmania’s history, with
construction commencing in 2022 and completion due late 2024.
The site on the Derwent River sits across a protected wetland which has shallow depths at
low tide, making navigation for construction challenging.
What was needed
Elgin Associates requested Enviro Paul to develop a stand-alone solar powered YDOC
CATM1 Tide gauge using a Seametrics Titanium PT12 Pressure sensor and a Turbidity
monitor using an Analyte NEP 5000 Turbidity sensor.
What we provided
The YDOC has a built in solar regulator cover to both charge the 9AH Lithium Battery and
provide 12V to power the PT12 and NEP 5000 and YDOC. An internal Barometric option
board allows barometric correction of the PT12 Pressure sensor to provide vessel skippers
and construction crews accurate tide levels in real time on their smart devices via the
Eagle.io cloud platform.
The outcome
Having this data is uploaded every 10 minutes to Eagle Io allowed them to decide whether
to transit shallow areas safely or not, and time works accordingly. The online data was also
calibrated to a tide board on the bridge and the YDOC configuration was changed via
Bluetooth. This allowed easy configuration from a boat on the river.
The YDOC also has Analyte NEP 5000 Turbidity logger to better understand the background
water quality of the river.
